I spent some of the day making the backing for the scrappy 16-patch quilt top and I now have it sandwiched and ready to quilt. A twin size Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting was the perfect size for this quilt top. I thought I would run short because of the length of my top, but I had just enough.
Here's a picture of part of the backing with the row of blocks sewn in the middle. I lined this row up with the center row of the quilt top. The blue is quite washed out in this photo, it's a much brighter blue in real life.
I will be straight line quilting this one using my walking foot. I'll be using cream colored thread to quilt this one because I want to use up all that cream colored thread that I bought in June for my hexagon quilt.
I like to sew, quilt, crochet and knit in my free time and this blog is all about my projects, past and present.

Worked On This All Day!!
I sewed the 7th row onto my quilt top today. It was a long day, but now the top is done. It's ready to sandwich and quilt. Can't wait to get started on that phase of this project. The top measures 51" x 58 1/2".
I will be following this tutorial for the binding of the sides of the quilt with the peaks and valleys. The other sides will have the tips of the hexagons cut off to make a straight side to bind with regular binding strips.

Latest Quilt Finished.
I was able to get the back pieced and the quilt sandwiched by Saturday afternoon. I quilted it on Sunday and Monday, finishing the binding yesterday. Here it is.
Front:
I did simple straight line cross hatch quilting on this one. I tried to free motion quilt it with my new Janome 7700 but it didn't turn out very well. I did two blocks before I decided to remove that quilting and use my walking foot to straight line quilt it.
I need to practice free motion quilting on this machine so I can get the speed of my sewing coordinated with the movement of the quilt under the needle. The next time I try to free motion quilt with this machine, I think I'll do a simple stipple and see how goes.
I've already cut 5" squares of pretty floral fabric for my next quilt top. It will be a simple design with the floral squares framed by green fabric strips. I haven't started sewing it yet. I'm taking a break for a few days to look at my to do list and get some other things done around the house.

The Ugly Christmas Quilt Is Quilted
I quilted the ugly, ugly Christmas quilt this morning. I did straight line quilting in a grid with diagonals throughout. I used my walking foot on my Bernina 1530 and it was easy and quick.'''
I have the binding ready to sew on. I'll have this quilt done in a couple of days.
I'm also finishing up my barn quilt. I have a couple of things to fix with the paint, then I will be ready to varnish. Unfortunately, the weather has been absolutely awful so I have to do all this painting in my laundry room. Very inconvenient.
