Preparing To Make Two More Quilt Tops

Today I took some time to cut fabric from two more quilt tops.  I don't have a chevron quilt or pinwheel quilt and I love to make quilts with half square triangles.

I'm making my chevron quilt with 5" squares cut from these bright colored fat quarters I had in my stash.  These are from the Free Spirit Collection I bought from Craftsy earlier this year.  I love the bright colors and I think they will make an awesome chevron quilt.

I bought two sets of 100 - 5" white charms from an etsy seller.   I usually cut up my own yardage for projects but I didn't feel like it this time and took the easy way out.

The other quilt will be a pinwheel quilt.  I've made three pinwheel quilts and they were all made with lots of fabrics so they looked old fashioned.  I gave all three of those away to family members so it's time for me to have one of my own.  Here is a picture of my very first quilt made with half square triangles.

My pinwheel quilt will be made with two charm packs of Union Blues by Barbara Brackman for Moda and one of the pack of 100 - 5" white charms I bought already cut.  I love the Civil War reproduction fabrics and these will be fun to work with.

With my fabric cut all I have to do is start sewing.

Union Jack Block Is On The Wall

I finally put this wall hanging up.  This block has been finished for about two weeks, but I have been looking for a dowel stick to use in the back for hanging and I was having trouble finding one that was longer than 12".  It's now on the wall in the bedroom and I love it.  I backed the block with solid pink and created my binding by folding the extra allowance of backing fabric to the front and machine sewed it on the front.  I have never done a binding like that before and it was hard to miter the corners, but with a little internet help I figured it out.

I'm working on my Christmas quilt this weekend.  I should have pictures of something later today.

# Union Jack Block Fun On A Holiday Weekend #

I have been wanting to get a paper piecing pattern for the Union Jack block.  I love the Union Jack quilts people are making in the pastel colors.  I lucked out and found this free pattern on Craftsy.   Here's the link to the pattern page.

So instead of working on one of the projects on my ever growing list, I took some time and made this block to use as a decoration in my bedroom.  It nice to get a project done to make up for the bathmat fail I had last week.  This block is 12" x 18" finished.   I'm going to sandwich it, quilt it and hang it in the bedroom.

Next, I'm going to cut the squares for my Civil War Buckshot Pin Cushion project.  I ordered the emery sand to fill it yesterday.
